Heather Lank

Dr. Heather Lank was appointed Parliamentary Librarian on June 21, 2018.

As Parliamentary Librarian, Dr. Lank oversees the management of the Library and reports to the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons, who are responsible for the direction and control of the Library of Parliament.

Dr. Lank joined the federal public service in 1990 as an operational auditor for the Correctional Service of Canada. She began her career with the Senate of Canada in 1991 as a committee clerk and assumed progressively more senior leadership roles over 27 years, including serving as Principal Clerk of Committees from 1999 to 2015.

From 2015 to 2018, Dr. Lank served as Principal Clerk of the Senate Chamber Operations and Procedure Office, where she was responsible for procedural, administrative and informational support for all Senate sittings, as well as for preparing and publishing related documents such as the Order Paper and Notice Paper, the Journals of the Senate and the Debates of the Senate. Dr. Lank was also responsible for providing advice and support to the Speaker of the Senate and to all other senators on matters of procedure and practice.

Born in Arvida, Quebec, and educated in Switzerland, the United States, and Canada, Dr. Lank holds both a master’s degree and a doctorate in sociology from the University of Toronto.
