The Census Data by Region dashboard allows users to access and visualize socioeconomic data from Statistics Canada's Census of Population based on federal electoral districts, provinces and territories.
The dashboard is optimized for use on desktop or laptop computers. Display constraints associated with screen size reduce the user experience on devices such as tablets or smartphones.
Two versions of the dashboard are currently available:
Description
The dashboard provides visual representations of selected socioeconomic variables for three geographic levels:
The variables are divided into five main themes:
The dashboard presents information from the 2021 Census of Population using the following datasets published by Statistics Canada: "Canada, provinces, territories, and federal electoral districts (FEDs) (2013 Representation Order)” and “Canada, provinces, territories and federal electoral districts (FEDs) (2023 Representation Order)." A custom dataset prepared by Statistics Canada for the Library of Parliament is also used.
Instructions
To use the dashboard, select a region from the dropdown menu under "Select a region." You can also type the name of a region into the search bar that appears in the dropdown menu.
The dashboard then displays the data associated with the region selected. If it is a federal electoral district, the "Parlinfo Profile" button in the upper right corner provides access to the district's profile on the Library of Parliament’s Parlinfo website. This profile contains information about the current member of Parliament for the district, the history of the district and other information.
To access the socioeconomic variables, select a thematic tab:
A series of figures related to the variables associated with the selected theme is then displayed. In addition to data, the figures may include various elements:
The question mark provides additional information to help interpret a figure. Using your mouse, hover over the question mark to display a summary directly on the dashboard. Click on the question mark to access more detailed information on the Statistics Canada website. |
