This portfolio was established by Order in Council on July 1, 1867. It was given statutory basis by Statute 31 Victoria, c. 12, assented to December 21, 1867.

    Department Change
    On November 4, 1993, the Minister was formally appointed to the existing portfolios (Public Works, and Supply and Services) from which the new portfolio (Public Works and Governement Services) was being created. The new responsibilities, however, took full effect immediately. ^

    Department Change
    The offices of Minister of Supply and Services, and Minister of Public Works were abolished and the office of Minister of Public Works and Government Services was created by Statute 42-43-44-45 Elizabeth II, c. 16 (1996), assented to June 20, 1996 and in force July 12, 1996.
  • 1993-06-25
    Department Change
    During the 25th Ministry, the portfolios of Public Works, and of Supply and Services were to be restructured into a new Governement Services portfolio pending the eventual passage of a Government Organization Act. Until passage of the new departmental statute, the Minister had been formally appointed to the existing portfolios from which the new portfolio was being created. The new responsibilities, however, took full effect immediately. Parliament was dissolved before this change could take place.
